Not all glass pipes change color, though. Some do and some don't. So, how do you tell the difference? It's simple if you know what you're looking for. But first, let's chat about what causes pipes to change color.
What is glass fuming?
Glass fuming is a process in which glass artists infuse either gold or silver when blowing a pipe. The metals are super heated and a vapor goes across the glass to create a wonderful streams of iridescent color. Silver tends to give the glass a yellow hue while gold gives off a blue or pink tint.
This process of infusing the precious metals into glass pipes has only been around since the 1980's.
How can I tell if my pipe will change colors?
Take a closer look at your pipe. Does it look similar to the images above? The glass will have an almost hazy appearance to the color. That's how you know!
Will the color change last on my fumed glass pipe?
The simple answer is no. The more you smoke from your pipe the more the color change will appear. Deep blues, pinks, purples, and yellows. Once you clean your pipe the color will go back to normal so that you can start all over again!
